Design Your Own Bathroom; Wacky Ideas

Custom Search

If you were to design your own bathroom, you might be tempted to come up with some really good ideas. However, if I have to do the same I may think of some strange ideas. Here are a few examples of them:

• A sink in center of the bathroom that looks like a drinking fountain or a bird bath. Molded tree stumps, tiles like a flower garden, hanging ferns all over, a miniature waterfall springing from a rock face, etc.

• A Greek temple, with bathroom sink, on a glass shelf supported by two low pillars. Statues and tiles with Greek patterns and lettering. Urns and pitchers, etc.

• A hall of mirrors, with copper fittings and lots of lights reflecting and re-reflecting all over.

• A little hut in the woods. Something like a giant sauna, with dim lighting, red checked curtains, and rough wooden surrounds to the fixtures.

I am sure you could come up with many even more extraordinary ideas. However, when you come back to your senses, you would have to take into account the person you are.

You are not one to design your own bathroom and then sit with one wacky idea for the rest of your life. It makes real sense, doesn’t it, to choose a bathroom that is practical and is designed for lasting comfort and convenience?

It should be rather neutral in style.

This way you can add fairly inexpensive finishing touches to change the whole theme of the bathroom and give it a totally new look from time to time.

And so we start again...

Where to Search for bathroom Ideas?

If you are going to design your own bathroom you should search magazines, bathroom stores, advertisements, and online bathroom sites for pictures, hints and ideas. Then write down all your ideas, as well as your bathroom needs, such as storage, type of shower etc. Then, of course, there would be the cost. You should have to work out what you can afford, or how much you are prepared to pay.

If you design your own bathroom, you should choose the fixtures and storage cupboards or shelves first, and work out the best possible way to fit them into the available space.

If you are fortunate enough to be building a whole new bathroom, you should work out how big it would need to be to suit all your requirements, as well as how conveniently and practically it would fit in with the rest of the house.

After that you should work on the lighting, theme, colors, tiles and fittings to create the style of bathroom you want. Finally you should spend quite a long time searching for those magical finishing touches that are exactly right. These are relatively inexpensive and easy to change and swap around if you get tired of them.

Some Special Things

Here are a few of the special things you may like to have in your bathroom.

All people have their own likes and dislikes. What are yours?

Some people are just looking for a place to clean up and that is all they want. For them, décor does not mean much as long as the bathroom is pleasant and comfortable and convenient. However, even they might like certain extra things, such as a nice big bathroom with an area where they can work out and store their gym equipment.

When you design your own bathroom you need a place where you can relax and de-stress. This means all the comfort and convenience together with lighting that gives a calming and soothing atmosphere in the evening, but an energizing, bright and cheerful atmosphere in the morning. So, day and night lighting need to be designed separately.

If you design your own bathroom, shower cubicles need to have steam to really clean your pores and get the circulation going, and then good strong jets of water to wake you up. At night, a relaxing soak in a gently stimulating whirlpool bath with lots of aroma-therapy oils is just the thing.

Candles and soft music wouldn’t be at all bad either. If music is laid on in your bathroom, it is usually just speakers that are installed, and the sound source itself can be in a cupboard or even outside the bathroom. Most sound systems don’t take kindly to steam and moisture. This is how you should design your bathroom.

I hope it stimulates some ideas for how you would like to design your own bathroom.
